The beginning

01/01/1965

Exploration and discovery

01/09/1970

The rig Zapata Explorer came from Denmark. In 1974, it found Hod. Then Valhall was proven by the rig Waage Drill in 1975.

Inaugurating the Valhall field

01/10/1982

Valhall was put into stream on 1 October 1982 as the fourth field to produce oil and gas on the Norwegian shelf.

A challenging reservoir

01/01/1986

Loose lime in the reservoir created challenges for the wells in Vallhall. One solution was to make plugs out of marbles. Eventually one came up with better methods.

Amoco in its own house

01/01/1994

In December 1994, Amoco's new building was completed with its own quay facility, seaview and a canteen shaped like a ship's hull.

Valhall sinks - new solutions

01/01/2000

In 2000, Valhall received approval for a water injection project, and extended the license period to 2028. With extended life, the field center needed to be renewed.

New development and electrification

01/01/2010

In 2013, a new combined process and accomodation platform came into place at Valhall. It is powered by hydropower from shore, which significantly reduced emissions to air.
